alex Living room-friendly to the core
Our fully active loudspeaker alex was developed in response to requests from our dealers and customers for a smaller, DSP-controlled floorstanding loudspeaker that sounds outstanding in both small and medium-sized rooms. Alex is based on the same technical principles as our compact loudspeaker ava, but is better suited for settings where a full-sized high-end loudspeaker should not appear too visually dominant. Just like ava and neo, alex delivers a level of sound quality that passive speakers simply cannot achieve. Thanks to highly complex digital signal processing (DSP) tuned down to the finest detail, the high-quality drivers are precisely controlled. This enables alex to achieve an extraordinary level of sound – with dynamics, resolution, and naturalness typically found only in significantly larger speakers. Impressive dynamics, holographic spatiality, precise soundstage imaging, excellent instrument separation, high transparency, beautiful timbres, and a captivatingly lively musicality: alex offers everything that defines truly great Hi-Fi reproduction!
Perfection through DSP
The heart of this fully active 3-way loudspeaker beats digitally. A 32-bit digital signal processor handles all control functions. It precisely assigns both drivers to their respective frequency ranges, rendering an analog crossover – and its inherent design weaknesses – obsolete. In addition, the DSP ensures perfect frequency response and absolutely time-aligned sound dispersion. Alongside IIR filtering, linear-phase FIR filtering is employed, which the renowned development team has been carefully refining and perfecting over the course of more than forty years (!). For our unique FIR technology, each driver is measured individually. Based on the individual measurement results, precise programming is carried out in the DSP. This process enables a 100% accurate response from the respective driver. In this way, the temporal behavior of the entire system can be harmonized, and the propagation speed of all frequency ranges in the music signal can be kept constant. The resulting temporal accuracy is crucial for the consistently compelling, authentic music reproduction delivered by our loudspeakers.

Time Coherence
In the spectrogram we recognize the excellent decay behavior of the genuine audio alex over the time axis (X-axis) as a function of the frequency (Y-axis).
Holographic sound stage
With alex, you’ll experience what it truly means to hear music holographically: voices and instruments no longer appear merely “between the speakers,” but emerge directly in front of you in the room – vividly and freely. Every instrument feels physically tangible; the finest details and nuances are precisely rendered without losing the musical context. The result is a soundstage that is absolutely natural, organic, and at the same time expansive. A key reason for this extraordinary three-dimensional imaging is our developers’ deliberate decision to use one of the world’s best coaxial drivers for the midrange and high-frequency range. Only a sound source that is absolutely homogeneous and temporally coherent can reproduce the frequencies critical to spatial perception precisely – with a naturalness and sense of presence typically associated only with significantly larger and more expensive speakers.
Two hundred bass

The coaxial chassis on the front is complemented by a side-mounted woofer. The choice fell on a very long-throw 200 mm bass driver with an extra-large voice coil. This couples acoustically below 170 hertz, relieves the coaxial chassis of demanding bass processing and allows it to devote itself entirely to its core tasks in the mid/high frequency range: creating a wide soundstage and reproducing the smallest details – always ensuring comprehensive homogeneity. Despite the smaller cabinet dimensions, the digitally controlled woofer plays down to 33 hertz (-6 dB), almost reaching the level of our significantly larger neo flagship speaker.
Extreme dynamics
Both drivers used in alex come from professional audio technology. Two aspects were decisive in their selection: high efficiency and maximum power handling. The coaxial driver impresses with a sensitivity of 93 dB, while the bass woofer handles up to 700 watts with extremely low distortion. These characteristics lay the foundation for exceptionally dynamic reproduction, which is perfected by meticulous DSP adjustment. Intelligent digital control also ensures high operational reliability: using a “look-ahead” analysis programmed specifically by our development team, the DSP ensures that neither the speakers nor the amplifiers can be overloaded.
Excessive power: 2 x 1,000 watts
alex is powered by the same four-channel amplifier from renowned Danish manufacturer Pascal Audio as our neo floorstanding speaker. Thanks to an over-dimensioned power supply, this UMAC® amplifier unit is capable of delivering 1,000 watts of power to each speaker – without noisy ventilation! Two channels of this outstanding Class D module feed the woofer in a bridged configuration, while the high and midrange units of the coaxial chassis are each driven separately by one channel. This exceptional combination of high acoustic driver sensitivity, excessive amplifier power and optimized DSP control is responsible for the extreme dynamics, convincing live impression and natural sound reproduction that distinguish our alex floorstanding speaker.
alex SE – the “Special Edition”
With the alex SE, our team goes one step further. Every amplifier module from Pascal Audio undergoes extensive mechanical sound tuning through meticulous handcrafting. This includes, among other things:
- The installation of decoupled charging capacitors and rectifiers in the switching power supply
- The use of highly conductive micro-fuses with rod resonators
- Beveled circuit boards and the replacement of all standard screws with non-magnetic copper screws
- The use of stripped, five-wire speaker cables made of high-purity copper and stripped, three-wire power supply cables for optimized conductivity
- Replacement of the standard industrial capacitor in the power amplifier’s signal path with a high-quality, non-damping capacitor featuring Teflon heat shrink tubing
The result of all these measures is an enhanced sense of naturalness, authority, and musical expressiveness – in short: even deeper emotions!

Linear amplitude and phase
Amplitude frequency response (blue): The complete audio spectrum is shown with extremely low ripple. The lower cut-off frequency is 33 Hz (-6 dB).
Phase response (green): The linear progression of the phase over almost the entire frequency range (60-20,000 Hz) is the result of the linear phase FIR equalization. The slope of the phase is a measure of the group delay and the criterion for the dispersion of one frequency group (pulse signal).
Perfect sound results – in every listening environment
alex comes with three presets which reflect common room conditions and that can be selected via a touch display: “Neutral,” “Wall Position” and “HiFi.” These are factory-set to deliver absolutely neutral frequency response. In addition, our integrated control software and professional sound engineering service offer a wide range of options for individual room correction to achieve the desired sound experience in any living environment.
Digital-analog coexistence
Because of its DSP-controlled operation, it makes sense to pair alex with a source device that outputs a digital signal – for example, with our music server tars or our preamplifier next. In this setup, the data remains entirely in digital form and is only converted to analog in the final step. With digital sources, it is much more efficient to convert a signal after the DSP rather than before a passive crossover – as is the case with conventional loudspeakers. Furthermore, the DAC section of alex is perfectly matched to the integrated amplifiers to fully exploit the potential dynamic range.
Despite its digital focus, alex can also be effectively used in an analog-oriented setup. For this purpose, the analog signals are digitized via the high-quality AD converter module. To ensure lossless, faithful digitization of analog sources, two 24-bit converters operate in a special configuration as a dual-range AD converter with a dynamic range of 128 decibels. As a result, both high-level sources such as mixing consoles and studio equipment, as well as hi-fi components like preamplifiers, can be connected via the balanced XLR inputs.
The shape factor: More than just design
alex is available in two versions: black and white lacquered. Veneer versions can also be produced on request. In addition to the significantly reduced cabinet dimensions compared to a genuin audio neo, our alex features new design elements such as the decorative ring around the coaxial chassis and the decorative strip below the driver. Both elements – as well as the speaker feet – are available in anthracite, gold and nickel. Since genuin audio is committed to absolutely faithful music reproduction, the concept of “form follows function” is naturally behind all design aspects: The three-dimensional edge geometry optimizes diffraction in the midrange and high-frequency range. The avoidance of edge dispersion plays a significant role in the spatial presentation – the music is completely detached from the speaker. To control the movement of the powerful low-frequency driver, the cabinet is made of MDF panels up to 54 millimeters thick, fluted and internally ribbed. The generously dimensioned, flow-optimized bass reflex tunnel on the rear supports the woofer and plays an important role in the effortless reproduction of the lowest frequencies – even at the highest listening levels.
